Thaddeus Szumilas was born in Brzeg Dolny-Poland. He came to the United States in 1966 and attended Haaren HS and Parsons School of Design in New York City. Thaddeus credits two people in particular for his typographic experience: the late John Pistilli of Sudler & Hennessey and Tom Carnase of LSC&P design group. His professional portfolio was the key to numerous freelance projects ranging among corporate identity, television, publishing, packaging, and others. Szumilas’s first typefaces were the WTC Thaddeus family for World Typeface Center and Ovidius for FontHaus. They were an inspiration to study and research various typestyles, resulting in these display faces and many more still in pencil form to be released in the future. Sharing his experience with students as a teacher at Pratt Institute for 20 years was an inestimable honor and privilege indeed.
